Carina Ari Medaljen


The purpose of the Carina Ari Medal is to reward persons who have commendably promoted Swedish dance.

The first award went to Birgit Cullberg in 1961.

The Award medal was sculpted by Carina Ari herself, and depicts her in a pose from her own ballet Månstrålen (The Moonbeam).

Amongst others, the medal was received by:

Mikhail Baryshnikov, Birgit Åkesson, Mats Ek, Ivo Cramér, Marina Grut, Ana Laguna. Some foreign choreographers who have worked in Sweden and influenced swedish dance are Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Maurice Béjart, Serge Lifar, John Neumeier, Pina Bausch, Kurt Jooss, Antony Tudor, Jiri Kylian, and among dancers Margot Fonteyn, Erik Bruhn, Vladimir Vasiliev.
